The Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) Internship Program provides undergraduate students with a focused, challenging summer research experience in a cutting-edge stem cell science laboratory.

Interns are exposed to different professional options within the scientific arena through a stem cell seminar series, a career pathways presentation, and a weekly stem cell companion course.

The HSCI Internship Program application cycle for summer 2022 is open to eligible candidates now through February 7, 2022. We currently plan to conduct a residential, in-person experience.

  • "The mentorship I received was amazing. Add to that all the biomedical infrastructure, and the connections between industry and the university and hospitals in the Boston area — it really sets it apart from other places. There is a strong focus on disease-oriented research at Harvard and HSCI, so for me it is a wonderful place to explore."

  • "The most valuable part of the experience is to be exposed to new challenges. I’ve been put in a lab where I had to learn new techniques, to adapt quickly, and to understand the scientific meaning of what I was doing. That opened my mind to how I approached science."

HIP interns gain both mentorship and hands-on experience working in some of the world's top research laboratories. They form new connections in Boston's unique, multidisciplinary stem cell community and share unforgettable experiences with fellow HIP interns. With a full seminar series, training, and lectures from top researchers, the program provides unparalleled opportunities that shape careers and inspire the next generation of stem cell scientists.

The HSCI Medical Scientist Training Fellowship is awarded to Harvard Medical School students who demonstrate strong interest in stem cell research.
