Markus Frank and his colleagues are reprogramming skin cells with the goal of giving people back their sight.

  • Seed funding from HSCI led Markus Frank and his colleagues to discover that the cell surface molecule ABCB5 can be used to identify limbal stem cells, which regenerate the cornea.

Call for Proposals: HSCI Seed Grants 2019

The Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) Invites applications for seed grant funding for its 2019 cycle. The purpose of this program is to provide funding for innovative projects in the field of stem cell and regenerative biology. As was the case last year, the HSCI strongly encourages proposals with a translational focus, or which are otherwise poised to accelerate the development of new stem cell-based therapies or cures.   • The ideal cancer drug would harm cancer cells without hurting normal cells.
  • In their quest to discover one good therapy, HSCI scientists Dan Tenen and Li Chai have zeroed in on SALL4, a gene that is essential for growth in both embryos and cancers.

HSCI forms collaboration with Qatar Biomedical Research Institute

HSCI has signed a collaborative research and training agreement with Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), a research institute under Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).
