Using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), a Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) research team has bioengineered functional small intestine segments that, when implanted into rats, were capable of deliver nutrients into the bloodstream. Applications for 2018 Joslin Pilot & Feasibility grants now open to all Harvard/Affiliates.

The goal of the Pilot and Feasibility Study Program is to encourage research on diabetes and its complications by two target groups: young researchers in these fields who have not yet received significant NIH or other funding, and seasoned investigators either entering the diabetes field for the first time or exploring a completely new direction.

Building community, one neighborhood at a time

In spring, 2017, Khalid Shah and Tracy Young-Pearse were settled in their new research home in Brigham and Women’s ‘Building for Transformative Medicine’ on Fenwood Road. Like good neighbors, they were very eager to get to know their HSCI colleagues in the Longwood area. With the HIP interns about to arrive, they figured, why not build a community around these new arrivals to our research family?
