The laboratory of Dr. Douglas Melton at Harvard University seeks a creative and highly collaborative computational postdoctoral researcher. The goal of the Melton laboratory is applying developmental biology to understand and change the course of diabetes. We are particularly focused on generating functional human islets from pluripotent stem cells to study and cure type 1 diabetes. Research projects include:
- Modeling human pancreatic islet development and physiological maturation
- In vitro modeling of type 1 diabetes onset and progression
- Engineering islet protection from the immune system
The candidate should possess solid computational skills in single cell RNA-seq and/or ATAC-seq analysis (Trajectory inference, Multimodal analysis, Noise modeling, Entropy analysis), and be able to both apply existing bioinformatic packages and design ad-hoc computational methods. The candidate is expected to work closely with experimental colleagues in designing, executing, and analyzing multimodal single-cell experiments.
- Have a PhD (or MD/PhD) in Computational Biology or a closely related field involving statistical and quantitative methods applied to high-throughput genomics.
- Possess deep knowledge of bioinformatic algorithms for analysis of genomic and epigenomic sequencing data, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.
- Be proficient across multiple programming and scientific computing languages.
- Have strong interest in developmental biology and diabetes, and be able to design and carry out computational analyses to address basic biological questions and test biological hypotheses.
- Be excited about interacting with experimental colleagues as well as work independently.
- Be able to both absorb new information and contribute new ideas as part of a team.
- Show attention to detail in both visualizing data and presenting scientific findings.
