Job Title: Research Technician I. Start date is July 2016. A commitment for two years is expected.

The Goessling Laboratory in the Genetics Division of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled research technician. The Goessling lab is located in the state-of-the-art New Research Building at the Harvard Medical School Longwood Campus. The candidate will assist in research to study novel regulators of liver and pancreas development, regeneration and cancer using zebrafish as the primary model. Knowledge gained from these studies may help find new therapies for the treatment of chronic liver and pancreas diseases, including cancer. Expectations: Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related science field with significant research experience and an outstanding academic record.

Required Skills: 
  • Sound understanding of lab policies and procedures - usually acquired through 1-3 months on-the-job training.
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Enthusiasm and ability to quickly learn new techniques and work independently.
  • Must demonstrate careful attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
Duties: 
The candidate will work closely with a postdoctoral fellow and is expected to independently perform daily activities of the laboratory, which include: 
  • Provide zebrafish care, including maintenance and breeding of relevant zebrafish lines
  • Performs standard zebrafish assays (in situ hybridization, microinjection)
  • Assists lab personnel with routine experiments
  • Performs standard molecular biology techniques (cloning, PCR, DNA and protein extraction, etc.)
  • Documents, compiles, and analyzes experimental results
